On last night’s episode of the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert reported on “Moo Shu Man Milk” as part of the ThreatDown. Apparently a team of Chinese scientists have created a herd of over 300 cows that are genetically modified to produce human breast milk.
Rodale.com reports that “while GMO breast milk isn’t on the market yet, people in the U.S. are exposed to other genetically engineered ingredients every day in the form of corn, soy, and canola ingredients that are sneaked into most processed foods. And despite the fact that a whopping 93 percent of Americans want GMO foods to be labeled, there are no such requirements. The good news is organic standards bans the use of GMOs, and the Non-GMO Project tests and certifies foods as being free of GMO contamination. So check food labels for either of those certifications to keep GMOs off your menu.”
